So, what is this happening thing I refer to?
@twitter is the happening thing (subtle embedded self-promotion [no tweets, yet]).
Who knew so many people use twitter? Seems it is a seriously popular website! If you have known all about Twitter forever, this might not be the blog post for you. If like me however, you have been hesitant to download another app, here were my 5 reasons to give:
- My UVic edtech professor suggested Twitter and I thought it could be beneficial for my learning.
- The best learning happens when the task is a little challenging.
- Owning a positive online presence demonstrates developing digital literacy and is what potential employers want to see.
- It is a great platform for sharing resources.
- Tweetdeck exists to make your twitter experience less intense/cluttered/overwhelming.
So I downloaded Twitter and my initial thoughts were: this is intense/cluttered/overwhelming. I opened Twitter on my desktop and opened Tweetdeck. Now, I am no Twitter pro, social media guru, or tech wizardess but I understood Tweetdeck almost immediately. I think the interface is intuitive and helpful, and so hopefully it will be for you too (if you decide to join me on this Twitter/Tweetdeck adventure). I added a fair few columns that search hashtags, show my messages and notifications, and home page (the cluttered feed I mentioned earlier). I also found that expanding the toolbar to reveal a list of all the columns I created made using it easier.
I have a lot of learning yet. What is a Twitter list? What is a Twitter chat? Who is it appropriate to dm? If you know more than me, I encourage you to school me in the comments below!

I so appreciate hearing someone else who has been just as confused by twitter as I have in the past. Hopefully we can learn the ins and outs together!
