Painting With Thread

Sorry about the title and the imagery if bugs are not your cup of tea, but I love the look of beetles. For my first big embroidery project I was inspired to re-create and re-imagine this image.

Before jumping directly into the project I wanted some further embroidery inspo.

This video is so cool.

While I haven’t yet used any of these stitches in my projects, I have practiced a few and am surprised how easy it was to follow along (I suggest working along side the video and pausing when necessary if you would like to try some of these beautiful and intricate patterns). They also inspired me to work on creating my own unique stitches as I go with the foundation I learned from the video I spoke about in my past embroidery post.

My Project
I found a ton of enjoyment and calm in this process. I felt as if I was painting with the thread, every new stitch an intentional swipe of colour. This hoop took me a long long time. Embroidery is not a fast process. I sort of love this aspect of  threading, it cannot be rushed. It forces me to slow down. For the first time in a long time, I really love what I made.
Here is to self love and staying hydrated!
